A lawyer asked Jesus who his neighbour was. Jesus told of a man robbed and left wounded. A priest and Levite passed by, but a Samaritan stopped, treated the wounds, placed the man on his animal, and paid an innkeeper to continue the care. Jesus turned the question around: the neighbour is the one who shows mercy.
واحد من الناموس سأل يسوع مين قريبي. يسوع حكى عن رجل اتسرق واتساب مجروح. كاهن ولاوي عدوا، لكن سامري وقف وعالج الجروح وحط الرجل على دابته ودفع لصاحب الفندق يكمل الرعاية. يسوع قلب السؤال: القريب هو اللي يعمل رحمة.

The Bible Adventure
A lawyer asked Jesus who his neighbour was. Jesus told of a man robbed and left wounded. A priest and Levite passed by, but a Samaritan stopped, treated the wounds, placed the man on his animal, and paid an innkeeper to continue the care. Jesus turned the question around: the neighbour is the one who shows mercy.
Read the passage slowly and follow the setting, conflict, response, and outcome. Notice how it teaches that neighbour-love crosses hostility and becomes costly, practical mercy. God acts in real history: He reveals His Son, confronts evil, welcomes outsiders, heals bodies and souls, forms disciples, and calls people into repentance and love.
This episode belongs to the one saving story fulfilled in Jesus Christ. Receive it with reverence, without inventing missing details, and ask how it corrects fear, pride, indifference, greed, or unbelief in our own lives.
Coptic Orthodox Teaching
The parable does not erase justice or make unsafe rescue obligatory. It reveals Christ’s command to love beyond tribal boundaries and portrays mercy as embodied action, while the Church organises care through wise community and professional help.
Orthodox interpretation holds the Gospel’s historical meaning, the unity of Scripture, and the Church’s worship together. Every application must remain faithful to Christ, the sacraments, love, truth, repentance, and the apostolic faith.
