God sent Samuel to Jesse’s house to anoint a new king. Samuel was impressed by the older sons, but God rejected outward measurement. The youngest, David, was brought from tending sheep; God identified him, Samuel anointed him, and the Spirit came upon him.

The Bible Adventure

God sent Samuel to Jesse’s house to anoint a new king. Samuel was impressed by the older sons, but God rejected outward measurement. The youngest, David, was brought from tending sheep; God identified him, Samuel anointed him, and the Spirit came upon him.

Read the passage slowly and notice the people’s words, choices, and consequences. The account teaches that God sees the heart and calls the overlooked to faithful service. God works truthfully within human history: He confronts evil, protects life, keeps covenant, and patiently calls people to trust and obedience.
