Young Samuel served near Eli when God called his name at night. Three times Samuel assumed Eli was speaking. Eli finally recognised what was happening and taught him how to answer. Samuel listened, received a difficult message truthfully, and grew as a prophet whose words God confirmed.

Read the passage slowly and notice the people’s words, choices, and consequences. The account teaches that listening to God requires humility, guidance, and a willing response. God works truthfully within human history: He confronts evil, protects life, keeps covenant, and patiently calls people to trust and obedience.
