Introduction | مقدمة

Esther, an orphan raised by Mordecai, became queen in Persia. When Haman arranged a decree to destroy the Jewish people, Mordecai asked her to appeal to the king. Entering without invitation could cost her life. Esther called the community to fast, accepted the risk, approached the throne, and carefully invited the king and Haman to banquets where she could speak.

أستير اليتيمة اللي رباها مردخاي بقت ملكة في فارس. لما هامان رتب قرار يهلك الشعب اليهودي، مردخاي طلب منها تكلم الملك. الدخول من غير دعوة كان ممكن يكلفها حياتها. أستير طلبت من الجماعة تصوم وقبلت الخطر ودخلت للعرش بحكمة وعزمت الملك وهامان على ولائم علشان تتكلم في الوقت المناسب.

The Bible Adventure

Esther, an orphan raised by Mordecai, became queen in Persia. When Haman arranged a decree to destroy the Jewish people, Mordecai asked her to appeal to the king. Entering without invitation could cost her life. Esther called the community to fast, accepted the risk, approached the throne, and carefully invited the king and Haman to banquets where she could speak.

Read the passage slowly and follow the setting, conflict, response, and outcome. Notice how the account teaches that courage grows through fasting, community, wisdom, and willingness to act. God acts within real human history: He confronts idolatry and injustice, preserves life, receives repentance, forms servants, and keeps covenant even when His people are weak.

This episode belongs to the one saving story that prepares for and is fulfilled in Jesus Christ. We receive it with reverence, without inventing missing details, and ask how it corrects fear, pride, indifference, revenge, or unbelief in our own lives.

Coptic Orthodox Teaching

The Greek Orthodox text makes explicit Esther’s prayer and dependence on God. Her courage is communal rather than solitary: fasting, counsel, patience, and wise speech prepare action. Providence works without turning political status into personal privilege.
