Introduction | مقدمة

At Passover Jesus found merchants and money changers in the temple courts. He made a whip of cords and drove out the animals and tables, commanding that His Father’s house not become a marketplace. When challenged, He spoke of the temple of His body, which would be raised after three days. His disciples remembered and believed.

وقت الفصح يسوع لقى تجار وصيارفة في أفنية الهيكل. عمل سوط من حبال وطرد الحيوانات وقلب الموائد وقال ما تحولوش بيت أبي لبيت تجارة. لما اتسأل، اتكلم عن هيكل جسده اللي هيقوم بعد تلات أيام. تلاميذه افتكروا وآمنوا.

The Bible Adventure

At Passover Jesus found merchants and money changers in the temple courts. He made a whip of cords and drove out the animals and tables, commanding that His Father’s house not become a marketplace. When challenged, He spoke of the temple of His body, which would be raised after three days. His disciples remembered and believed.

Read the passage slowly and follow the setting, conflict, response, and outcome. Notice how it teaches that holy worship cannot be reduced to commerce, and Christ is the true Temple. God acts in real history: He reveals His Son, confronts evil, welcomes outsiders, heals bodies and souls, forms disciples, and calls people into repentance and love.

This episode belongs to the one saving story fulfilled in Jesus Christ. Receive it with reverence, without inventing missing details, and ask how it corrects fear, pride, indifference, greed, or unbelief in our own lives.

Coptic Orthodox Teaching

Christ’s zeal is holy protection of worship, not permission for angry abuse. The true Temple is His body, and the Church’s worship must never exploit the poor or sell God’s grace.

Orthodox interpretation holds the Gospel’s historical meaning, the unity of Scripture, and the Church’s worship together. Every application must remain faithful to Christ, the sacraments, love, truth, repentance, and the apostolic faith.
