Antiochus IV tried to erase Jewish worship, profaned the temple, and demanded practices contrary to the covenant. The aged Eleazar and a mother with seven sons accepted suffering rather than pretend to abandon God, confessing hope in resurrection. Mattathias and his sons resisted the oppression; Judas Maccabeus later led the cleansing and rededication of the temple.

The Bible Adventure

The aged Eleazar and a mother with seven sons accepted suffering rather than pretend to abandon God, confessing hope in resurrection.
