Hagar and Ishmael were sent into the wilderness with limited supplies. When the water ended, Hagar wept at a distance, unable to watch her son suffer. God heard the boy, called Hagar by name, opened her eyes to a well, and repeated His promise to care for Ishmael’s future.

هاجر وإسماعيل خرجوا للبرية ومعاهم مؤونة قليلة. لما المياه خلصت، هاجر عيطت من بعيد ومقدرتش تشوف ابنها بيتألم. ربنا سمع صوت الولد ونادى هاجر باسمها وفتح عينيها على بئر وجدّد وعده إنه يهتم بمستقبل إسماعيل.

The Bible Adventure

Hagar and Ishmael were sent into the wilderness with limited supplies. When the water ended, Hagar wept at a distance, unable to watch her son suffer. God heard the boy, called Hagar by name, opened her eyes to a well, and repeated His promise to care for Ishmael’s future.

Read the passage slowly and notice the people’s words, choices, and consequences. The account teaches that God sees and hears people who feel rejected and alone. God works truthfully within human history: He confronts evil, protects life, keeps covenant, and patiently calls people to trust and obedience.

This is not a distant tale or a moral slogan. It belongs to the one saving story that prepares for Jesus Christ. We receive the passage with reverence, ask what it reveals about God, and allow it to correct fear, pride, selfishness, or unbelief in our own lives.

Coptic Orthodox Teaching

God’s covenant purpose through Isaac does not erase His compassion for Hagar and Ishmael. Christians must read the passage without contempt for any people and imitate God’s care for the displaced.

In the Church, Scripture is heard within worship, prayer, the sacraments, and the faith handed down from the apostles. Typology does not erase the historical account; it shows how God patiently prepares His people for the fullness revealed in Christ.
